The white wedding dress was made popular by Queen Victoria in the 1840’s,

Who chose to wear white rather than the traditional silver.

Today, brides in China still wear red dresses, symbolizing their joy and love.

As little girls, dream about our wedding dress. Well, now is the time to make that dream come true. No doubt, you already have an idea of the dress you want. However, sometimes our dreams and our reality don't quite match up and we need to make some adjustments. When it comes to dress shopping, don't procrastinate. Begin by looking at the Veil Magazine fashion pages and attending fashion shows in your area. The ideas you get from magazines and shows will give you some basis to go on when you make your salon visits.

- Always set an appointment when visiting a bridal salon. Bridal gowns need the personalized attention of an attendant who can gather gowns based on your tastes, figure and budget.

- Order your gown 6-12 months in advance.

- Order your bridesmaid gowns 4-8 months in advance. Salons typically do not place the order until all women in your party are measured to ensure that the dresses are all cut from the same dye lot so they will match.

- Let the bridal salon staff guide you in selecting the right size. NEVER order the size you hope to be on your wedding day. It is easier to take a gown in than let it out.

- Ask about the price of alterations and secure the schedule of your fittings.

- Choose your headpiece and veil carefully. They should properly frame your face, fit comfortably, fit your hairstyle and complement your gown.

- Be sure to take your shoes to all fittings to measure correct hemlines. Also, be sure to break your shoes in at home so they are comfortable.

- When you make your final pick up at the salon, take an inventory to be sure you've brought home all the components including your headpiece, shoes, slip, undergarments, gloves, jewelry and any other accessories.
